The Inspiring Women in Science awards honor and promote the contributions made by women in science, and all those who seek to inspire young girls and women worldwide to pursue professions in STEM fields.

They are accepting submissions for the Science Outreach and Scientific Achievement award categories.

  • Science Outreach Category: The Science Outreach Category of the Nature Awards for Inspiring Women in Science honors projects that encourage girls and young women to become interested in, love, and pursue STEM fields OR to promote the retention of women in STEM fields. Natural sciences, technology, engineering, math, and medicine all fall under the umbrella of STEM.
  • Scientific Achievement Category: Early-career female researchers are honored by the Nature Awards for Inspiring Women in Science – Scientific Achievement Category. The chosen candidate will have significantly advanced science and may have overcome considerable obstacles on both a personal and professional level.

Eligibility

Science Outreach Category: 

  • They welcome proposals from groups, divisions, people (of either gender), and project teams.
  • They’re seeking projects that have either:
    • encouraged young girls and women to choose jobs in the fields of natural sciences, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine OR
    • enhanced the retention of women in STEM fields with an emphasis on giving them the resources they need to advance in such fields.

  • Candidates must declare themselves to be women. They define “woman” and “women” in a broad sense. Trans women, genderqueer folks, and non-binary individuals are welcome.
  • Candidates must possess a PhD, a medical degree, or another sort of dissertation-based doctorate. A PhD, or doctorate by dissertation, is a postgraduate academic degree that is granted by a university or higher education institution to an applicant who has presented a thesis or dissertation that is the result of in-depth research in their field of study.

It is not possible to apply if you hold a tenured job (or equivalents, such a permanent lecturer position).
  • Those who work in the natural sciences, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine are welcome to apply. Applications with an interdisciplinary component are also encouraged.
