Opportunity Description

Every academic year, Maastricht University offers Holland-High Potential Scholarship awards, which consist of 21 full scholarships of € 34,000. This scholarship includes a tuition fee waiver and monthly payment to talented students from outside the European Union (EU) who have received a Master’s program admission at UM.

The Maastricht University Scholarship Fund funds the High Potential Scholarship, while the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture, and Science funds the NL Scholarship in partnership with Dutch universities and universities of applied sciences. It is designed for international students outside the EU/EEA who want to study full-time in the Netherlands.

Benefits of the Holland-High Potential Scholarship

This fully funded scholarship covers the following costs in Holland:

  • 13 months enrolled living expenses: €15.925
  • 25 months enrolled living expenses: €30,625
  • Health Insurance: €700

  • Tuition Fee: as per cost
  • Pre-Academic Training: as per cost

Note: The scholarship amounts may change for the academic year 2026–2027.

Eligibility Criteria

Please check these application requirements before applying to the Holland-High Potential Scholarship:

  • Candidates must be citizens of a country outside the EU/EEA, Surinam, or Switzerland
  • Applicants should meet the necessities for obtaining an entry visa and authorization to reside in the host country (Holland).
  • Applicants should not possess dual citizenship with an EU/EEA nation.
  • For the academic year 2025–2026, you should have applied for admission to participate in a full-time Master’s program at Maastricht University.
  • As an applicant, you should be eligible for admission to a participating UM master’s degree program to which you have applied.
  • The candidate must have never participated in any higher education program in the Netherlands.
  • Applicants participating in Holland exchange programs can also apply for this opportunity.
  • Age: not above 35 on September 1, 2025
  • You must have a strong academic background.

  • Before applying to the Holland-High Potential Scholarship, all applicants must register in one of the University of Maastricht’s participating Master’s degree programs through the application link below.
  • After registration, the registration portal will generate a student ID number, which will be necessary while filling out the scholarship application form.
  • After logging into your UM account, please fill out the scholarship application form.
  • Applicants should upload all the required documents above in the application portal in .doc, .docx, or PDF format.
  • Provide all your personal information, such as your name, address, date of birth, country, etc.
  • Please fill in all required fields for each level of the application form.
  • Carefully fill out your application.

  • The scholarship is only available upon acceptance.
  • The UM International Services Desk does not pay handling fees if your study program asks for it as part of the admissions process. By February 1, 2025, you are responsible for paying any handling fees for your study program.
