Harry Frank Guggenheim (HFG) 2022 Distinguished Scholar Awards

announcement Award/Grant Competition Fund Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation posted 2 years ago

Opportunity Description

The Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation was established by Harry Guggenheim to support research on violence, aggression, and dominance. And the HFG Distinguished Awards are aiming to reward prominent scholars who propose to make a substantial contribution to shedding light on a violent issue. Applicants from all around the world can submit projects in the social and scientific sciences, as well as other disciplines that promise to improve understanding of the origins, manifestations, and control of violence and aggressiveness.
The primacy is given to research that addresses critical, current-day issues of violence—what causes it, how it works, and what prevents or diminishes it.
The Foundation is interested in violence in a variety of contexts, including, but not limited to, the following:

  • War
  • Crime
  • Terrorism
  • Family and intimate-partner relationships
  • Climate instability and natural resources competition
  • Racial, ethnic, and religious conflict
  • Political extremism and nationalism

The Foundation is committed to funding research into the basic factors that contribute to violence. Nonetheless, proposals that make a strong argument for the importance of prospective results for policy to minimize these problems are given precedence. Similarly, historical research is evaluated if it is relevant to a contemporary violent scenario. Examinations of the effects of violence are appropriate inasmuch as it can be demonstrated that these results may act as causes of future violence.

  • They are not given to institutions to support institutional programs. Individuals who obtain research funding may be taxed on the funds received.
