Opportunity Description

Awarded annually since 2018, the Global Citizen Prize: Cisco Youth Leadership Prize honors a young person who is making a difference in the world and improving it for everybody. It honors a person between the ages of 18 and 30 who has applied a creative problem-solving strategy and contributed significantly to the goal of eradicating poverty in their community. It is given in collaboration with Cisco, a worldwide partner of Global Citizen.

Eligibility:

  • Age restrictions range from 18 to 30 years old for applicants.
  • Candidates must be either self-employed or hired by an established company.
  • Any nation on earth may submit an application.

Selection Criteria:

In order to choose participants based on their organizational capacity and individual merit in supporting one or more of the United Nations Global Goals for Sustainable Development, the following five criteria will be used:

  • Technology Innovation: efficiency, reach, and impact are increased by the use of technology or communications through the Internet.
  • Vision: a strong explanation of how the Prize will support the expansion of this work over the next three to five years, together with an inspiring vision.
  • Impact: a history of successfully attaining one or more of the global goals during the last three to five years with verifiable impact at scale.
  • Catalyst: inspires additional youth to work toward accomplishing one or more of the global goals.
  • Global Citizenship: shows the values of a global citizen and acts with the mindset of a global problem-solver.

Required Information:

The application is divided into 4 sections:

(1) Who You Are: Personal and Organizational Data, (2) Your Pitch (3) Your Work (4) Additional Organizational Information

  • First Part: You must submit basic information about yourself and your organization, as well as a scanned copy of your passport.
  • Second Part: Explain why you deserve this Prize and submit a 2-3 minute video of your pitch.
  • Third Part: you’ll explain how you met each of the Prize’s criteria in 250 words or less.
  • Fourth Part: You must also supply documentation of your organization’s registration details, such as a certificate of registration, incorporation, or tax exemption, as well as other supplemental information.

If selected as a finalist:
  • If selected as one of the 5 finalists, you will be asked to submit three letters of recommendation from a colleague, a funder or operational partner, and a person you’ve impacted.
  • Have your letters of recommendation ready to submit after submitting your application for the Prize.
  • Finalists may also be asked for additional information.
  • Finalists who are approached but do not respond with letters of reference or other information by the deadline may be dropped from consideration.
  • You will be provided instructions on how to submit your letters of recommendation and extra material if you are chosen as a finalist.
