Opportunity Description
The Global Citizen Curtis Fellowship 2022 is now accepting applications. Curtis Fellowship 2022 is an annual leadership development program for South African youth ages 18 to 21 from underserved communities who embody global citizenship values. The Curtis Fellows will investigate social issues and innovative international organizations focusing on poverty alleviation in Global Citizen’s issue areas, with the assistance of Global Citizen staff. Curtis Fellows will advance their professional and personal development by participating in an innovative and engaging curriculum. Following completion, fellows will receive letters of recommendation, advice on future endeavors, and the opportunity to stay in touch with other Curtis Fellow alumni.

Program Highlights:
- An innovative and engaging curriculum focused on personal and professional development was offered from April to October.
- All-expenses-paid learning trip to New York City in late September to visit cultural institutions and meet with industry leaders, among other things (if travel permits)
- Speaker Series featuring a variety of industry leaders
- Opportunities for Networking and Internships
- Access to a growing Alumni Network, as well as numerous other opportunities
- A monthly stipend will be included for a part-time commitment from April to October 2022.
Eligibility Criteria:
- 18-21 years old (by the time of application)
- Limited travel experience
- A family’s household income is less than RAND 120, 000.
- Those who have previously been disadvantaged are strongly encouraged to apply.
Application Requirements:
Candidates must submit a 2-3 minute video or a 500-700 word essay answering the following questions:
- What characteristics do you identify with as a global citizen?
- What long-term change do you hope to achieve through the program if chosen?
- What specific socioeconomic issues are you addressing, and why?
- To be considered for the Curtis Fellowship, applicants must submit a recommendation letter from a teacher/professor, school administrator, community leader, or colleague.
