Opportunity Description

The H&M Foundation, a non-profit independent foundation for the public good, in partnership with Accenture, the Mills Fabrica, and the KTH Royal Institute of Technology, accepts applications for the 2023 Global Change Award (GCA) program. International applicants who can transform fashion and change how it is seen, worn, and made can apply for this Award.

The GCA aims to find, support, and scale disruptive ideas that can turn the fashion and textile industry into a planet-positive one and protect the planet. For the 2023 GCA program, the winning ideas should fall into three categories: regenerate, repurpose, and reimagine.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants who meet the following eligibility criteria can apply for GCA:

  • Submit an entry in English 
  • Be at least 18 years old 
  • Apply as individuals and groups of up to four people from social businesses, institutions, and organizations, as well as joint projects, consortiums, and other types of partnerships.
  • All applicants must accept Global Change Award’s Terms & Conditions
  • All applicants must receive the Global Change Award’s Privacy Notice
  • Be proficient in English.  

GCA Categories 

For 2023 GCA program, the winning ideas should fall into one of three categories:

  1. Regenerate: Provide solutions towards planet positive effects.
  2. Re-purpose: Provide solutions towards circularity
  3. Re-imagine: Provide solutions that are reshaped and have not been imagined yet.

GCA Timeline 

Global Change Award 2023 timeline is as follows:

  • Application period: Between 20 October – 8 December 2022
  • Screening: From January to March 2023 by industry experts and partners.
  • Announcement: The five winners will be notified in March 2023 and announced publicly at an Award Ceremony in Stockholm on 8 June 2023.
  • Innovation Accelerator: One-year GCA Impact Accelerator program starts in June 2023.

GCA Screening Process 

A broad group of industry experts, H&M Foundation, and GCA partners, including Accenture, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, and the Mills Fabrica teams, review the applications through a thorough scoring process.

Then the group panel will shortlist 400 entries, then 100 and 50, where different reference groups review the ideas. Once the group shortlists 20 entries, they will collect a verification of claims and supporting documents, conduct phone interviews, and more.

In third step, the GCA Expert Panel consists of a group of international experts in sustainability, fashion, business, investment, and entrepreneurship helps the group panel to select the final five winners.

The group panel will assess candidates’ entries against the following criteria:

  • Potential planet-positive impact of an idea or solution
  • The ability to scale
  • Experience and capacity of teams
  • Novelty and originality of an idea
