Opportunity Description
Schools frequently make an effort to assist kids who are having academic difficulties. One method they use to do this is the educational standing procedure, which often entails putting the student on academic probation or a comparable status. The difficulty is in conveying this information to kids in a way that encourages and supports them rather than makes them feel demoralized and humiliated.
They have discovered that it is feasible to draft a probation notice letter in a way that is sensitive to students’ psychological experience after years of research with students and administrators from across the nation and the world. These “psychologically attuned” letters purposefully speak to the anxieties and concerns that students frequently experience when placed on probation. They can change students’ psychological experience in a less shame-inducing way and increase their likelihood of engaging in productive behaviors, such as asking for tutoring or speaking with a professor.
Objectives
They developed this course to teach college administrators how to write notice letters with psychological considerations. This course will teach you how to compose a psychologically attuned letter, seek feedback from students and colleagues, apply and assess your letter, the psychology and supporting research for this method, and more. After using this toolkit, administrators frequently use the same strategy in other messages and regulations. You are invited to enroll in this course even if you are not a college administrator so that you may use the lessons to improve other forms of communication.
