Opportunity Description
The goal of the Fellows Program is to draw fellows with advanced technical knowledge and experience in any area of the Organization. Fellows are usually PhD candidates, researchers, and professors. In addition to completing their specialized learning goals, they are prepared to share their technical know-how and expertise with FAO through agreements that have time constraints.
In order to support the 2030 Agenda through the transformation to MORE efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable agri-food systems for better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life, leaving no one behind, assignments should be in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the FAO’s Strategic Framework.

Eligibility Criteria:
Applicants must be:
- Graduate or post-graduate (Master’s or PhD) degree, or be enrolled in a PhD program at the time of application in a “bona fide” educational institution, or be a recent graduate. Please be aware that UNESCO and the International Association of Universities (IAU) maintain the World Higher Education Database (WHED), which is a list of accredited and recognized institutions for higher education. Only these qualifications are taken into account by the FAO. You can view the list here.
- A minimum of two years of relevant work or research experience in one of the Organization’s fields is required of candidates.
- Proficiency in the following languages: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, or Spanish; at least one FAO language. Being able to communicate in another FAO language will be advantageous.
- Hold nationality from among FAO members.
- Candidates should have strong communication skills and be able to adjust to a multicultural, international workplace.
