Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zürich (ETH Zürich) accepts applications for a Student Summer Research Fellowship (ETH SSRF). Undergraduate and graduate international students can apply for this fellowship program to obtain their first research experience in their chosen field of study. The ETH Computer Science Department offers this fellowship program for two summer months and is open to students worldwide. Benefits 

Fellows who participate in the ETH SSRF can benefit from the program as follows:

  • Fellows will be paid CHF 4000 monthly as a stipend toward their fellow’s accommodation and living expenses.
  • Travel and visa costs: Please ask for the travel costs against receipts at the program’s start.

Eligibility Criteria

All applicants should meet the following requirements to apply for the ETH SSRF program:

  • Applicants must have enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s program in computer science or related fields (e.g., electrical engineering, mathematics, physics)
  • Graduation is expected in the year following the fellowship or later
  • have completed at least two years of study by the program start (master’s students meet this automatically)
  • Must commit to the full two-month duration (July and August) and be present
  • Program conducted in English; good English proficiency needed (may be assessed in an interview)
  • Applications are reviewed based on provided documents; the final step may include an interview for shortlisted candidates.

Applicants should prepare and submit the following documents:

  • CV in English: Use the Europass format.
  • Official academic transcript: Must be from your home university; no self-made versions or screenshots accepted. Use your university’s grading system.
  • GPA note: If your first-semester master’s GPA isn’t available, provide your bachelor’s final GPA.
  • Letter of motivation/personal statement (max 1 page in English): Explain why you chose your research area, your goals at ETH, and how it supports your research career. Aim for half to one A4 page, laid out clearly.
