Do you want to pursue your Master’s degree in Global Studies at leading European universities and beyond? If so, the Erasmus Mundus Master in Global Studies (EMGS) applications are open for 2025-26.
This Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (EMJMD) is offered by a consortium of five top European universities and several partner institutions worldwide. The program prepares graduates for academic careers, positions in international organizations, and roles as intercultural mediators in fields such as development, management, and policymaking.
With financial support from the European Commission, the program includes Erasmus Mundus scholarships for both European and non-European students. The curriculum emphasizes transregional connectedness and provides options for study at partner universities in Canada, Australia, the USA, South Africa, China, India, New Zealand, Ethiopia, and Cameroon.

The EMGS Consortium Universities are:
- Leipzig University (Germany)
- University of Vienna (Austria)
- University of Wrocław (Poland)
- Roskilde University (Denmark)
- Ghent University (Belgium)
The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) was a founding member of the consortium but is no longer part of it as of 2023.

Benefits and Financial Aids
The EMGS 2025-26 program will include the following scholarships to cover student’s study costs:
Erasmus Mundus Scholarships (60 in total):
- This category is available to students from all Erasmus programs and partner countries:
- Full tuition fee coverage
- €1,400 monthly stipend for living expenses
- Basic medical insurance
Additional Regional Scholarships (31 in total):
- Available for students from specific regions with priority from Least Developed Countries, including:
- Western Balkans
- Sub-Saharan Africa
- Central Asia
- Pacific and Caribbean
- Latin America
- Middle East
Erasmus+ Grants for Self-Funded Students:
- €500-600 per month (for up to one year)
- Can be applied for the second year of the program
Special Needs Financial Support:
- Additional funding available for students with disabilities (e.g., costs for adaptive equipment or travel assistance)
Eligibility Criteria
Following are the admission criteria and requirements for the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship for 2025-26.
EMGS Admission Requirements:
- Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree (at least three years) in humanities or social sciences
- Have completed at least 15% of coursework in global studies-related fields (e.g., history, economics, sociology, political science, cultural studies)
- English proficiency score:
- TOEFL: 80 iBT / 550 PBT / 213 CBT
- IELTS: 6.5 (with no section below 6.5)
- Cambridge C2 (CPE) or Cambridge C1 (CAE)
- Knowledge of an additional foreign language at the A2 level (CEFR)
- Must meet country-specific degree recognition requirements
Erasmus Mundus Scholarship Requirements:
- Open to students worldwide with a first degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent).
- Scholarships are available for Erasmus+ partner and program country nationals.
- Applicants with dual Nationality can choose which category to apply under.
- Previous Erasmus Mundus scholarship recipients are ineligible.
- Selected students must sign a scholarship contract.
- Mandatory mobility: Students must study in at least two different countries from their home country.
- Mobility also applies to optional terms at non-European partner universities.

- Motivation Letter (1-2 pages) outlining interest in the program
- Passport Copy (proof of Nationality)
- Proof of Residence (residence certificate or work/study proof issued within 12 months)
- High School Diploma & Transcripts (certified translations if not in English/German)
- University Diploma and Transcripts (certified translations if not in English/German)
- English Proficiency Test Results:
- TOEFL: 80 iBT / 550 PBT / 213 CBT
- IELTS: 6.5 (with no section below 6.5)
- Cambridge C2 (CPE) or Cambridge C1 (CAE)
- Proof of Knowledge of Another Foreign Language (A2 level)
- Academic Recommendation Letter
- Proof of Work Experience / Extracurricular Activities (if applicable)
Required Documents (After Admission):
Applicants who receive admission must submit the following documents to Leipzig University by mid-August:
- High School Diploma (or equivalent, e.g., Baccalaureate, A Levels) –
- Official High School Transcripts
- University Diplomas (Bachelor’s, Master’s, or equivalent)
- University Transcripts
- English Proficiency Test Results (TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge C1/C2).
- Confirmation of Passed Examinations (if the degree is not received by mid-August)
Additional Requirements for Specific Countries:
- China: Certificate from Akademische Prüfstelle Peking (APS)
- Vietnam: Certificate from Akademische Prüfstelle Hanoi (APS)
- India: Certificate from Akademische Prüfstelle (APS) India
Note: Submission of these documents is a must for enrollment, regardless of the university where you study.
