Opportunity Description

Are you an Asia-Pacific region journalist looking for funding to help you produce in-depth articles about environmental and climate injustice? If yes, don’t miss this opportunity!

Up to 20 reporting funds are being made available by Internews’ Earth Journalism Network (EJN) to young journalists in the Asia-Pacific area to help them produce in-depth articles on environmental and climate injustice.

Youth and underprivileged populations are frequently concerned about topics that traditional media often ignore or underreport, such as environmental and climatic injustice. According to Nieman Reports, ecological injustice, or the reality that some communities have disproportionate environmental costs and are more vulnerable to the harmful effects of resource exploitation, ecological deterioration, and pollution, “remains virtually missing in the daily news cycle.” Opportunities for journalism students and emerging and early-career journalists have become increasingly scarce as independent media outlets worldwide struggle to remain profitable. This is especially true when young journalists come from marginalized communities like indigenous peoples and ethnic minority groups.
