Opportunity Description

Deutsche Welle Academy has launched a support program for Afghan refugee journalists and Afghanistan media employees who are now in Central and South Asian countries to provide them with important training and support them financially during the program.

If you have left the country after august 2021 and now reside in a country in South Asia (India, Pakistan,,,) and central Asian countries and are interested in broadening your knowledge of journalism, do apply to the DW support program for Afghan Journalists.

The DW support program has two steps:

  1. First step: Participants will earn skills through thoughtful training to empower them in journalism.
  2. Second step; Participants will utilize the acquired knowledge in producing media content. To ensure better quality standards, instructions will be provided.

Benefits

  1. Training and instructions for professional capacity building of participants (digital and compound):
    • Security training (digital)
    • Journalism skills training according to the need and requests of participants.
    • Sensitization: reporting about gender and minorities
    • Instruction by Dari and Pashto News service   at DW
    • Career Traineeship for the empowerment of professional options
  2. Monthly allowance between September to December to cover the basic live expenses
  3. the possibility of publishment of chosen content produced by participants

The language of the main training is Dari, Pashto and English (Translation will be provided if required ). other training are in Dari or pashto.

Commitment: 

  • Participants should demonstrate commitment to participate in all online classes and be in touch during the training.
  • Produce at least Two reports during the training. They can use Video, Audio, text or image in the report.

Who can apply to DW support program?

 

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • Be an experienced journalist from Afghanistan with at least 3 years of experience in independent media in Afghanistan.
  • Have left Afghanistan from August 2021 and now reside in one of South or central Asian countries such as India, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan …
  • Fully Know Dari or Pashto language. (Native speaker)
  • Be available and commit to participating from September 1st to the end of December 2022.
  • be interested in continuing their career as professional media employees.

Interested applicants should send the following information and documents to the submission email stated below:

  1. Full name, Birth date, and Address
  2. CV/resume
  3. Three work samples (PDF/Link)
  4. Motivation letter: describing your motivation with details of your current professional status and your motivation for participation at this program (half of A4 page).
  5. Optional: A short video (2-3 minutes) introducing you and your motivation.

Note:

  • Applicants will be invited to attend an online interview in the coming days after the deadline.
  • Female journalists and journalists from Afghanistan minorities are especially encouraged to apply.
  • This program does give the participants the right to be employed in DW in the future and this program does not facilitate any residency in Germany.
