The East-West Center‘s Changing Faces Women’s Leadership Seminar 2022 is now accepting applications. These 12 days, immersive leadership and professional development seminar is for entrepreneurs from Asia, the Pacific, and the United States who want to improve their leadership skills and entrepreneurial capacity, learn about innovative entrepreneurship, leadership, and community examples, increase their self-efficacy and expand their national and regional networks.

Seminar Highlights:

The goal of the Changing Faces Seminar is to:

  • Facilitated training exercises, workshops, discussions, and community site visits will help innovative women develop their entrepreneurial capacity and leadership skills.
  • Implement a year-long initiative with a concrete Action Plan to develop a participant’s business or community.
  • Expand participants’ social capital and create a community of female leaders through networking opportunities and ongoing social media communication with speakers, trainers, Changing Faces alumni, the local community, and one another.
  • Participants will better understand the region through reciprocal learning and exposure to fresh ideas and viewpoints.
  • In collaboration with the Sacred Hearts Academy, empower the next generation of women leaders in Hawaii through a service project.
Benefits of Changing Faces Women Leadership Seminar:
  • The funding will enable 6 to 8 women from the United States and the Asia Pacific region to participate.
  • A full scholarship costs USD$2,985 per participant and covers the following programmatic expenses:
  • Interisland flights from Oahu to Hawaii Island are available.
  • Throughout the 2022 program, ground transportation and airport transfers will be provided.
  • For the 2022 program, lodging is available on Oahu and Hawaii Island for 12 days.
  • Meals for the program and a small per diem to cover meals not supplied during the 2022 program
  • Training courses and pro-rated speaker honoraria
  • Mentorship for hosts on an individual basis
  • Opportunities for cultural exchange and networking
  • Resources for the participants
  • Facilitators who are experienced and knowledgeable about regional and women’s leadership concerns.

Note: All Changing Faces Women must pay for their round-trip flights to and from Honolulu, visa fees, health insurance, luggage fees, and vaccinations. 

2. The Center highly urges additional participation costs due to the limited number of scholarships available. Cost-sharing considers cost-sharing proof of an applicant’s dedication to self-growth, a desire to build one’s business, and the Seminar’s objectives. The Selection Committee considers this.

Who is eligible for Changing Faces Women Leadership Seminar?
  • Female business owners and social entrepreneurs who have shown leadership and the ability to affect change and inspire others in their communities are eligible.
  • Entrepreneurs, company managers, government and industry policymakers, and civil society leaders with at least seven years of professional experience and a leadership role in their community are eligible to apply.
  • Innovators have invented an original idea or product or have been recognized for their ability to improve on an original idea or system.
Application Requirements:

To be considered, applicants must provide all of the following:

  • A completed online Changing Faces Seminar Application Form
  • A letter of interest (no more than three pages) with the following information:
    • A brief overview of your company/organization and your role
    • What you hope to gain and offer by participating in Changing Faces
    • Specific examples of your professional leadership and innovation (as mentioned above).
    • Demonstrated potential for influence within your community
    • Establish an actionable objective for your organization or community that you want to work on and define the role you can or would like to play in accomplishing that goal

  • CV (max. 2 pages)
  • 2 professional letters of recommendation outlining your suitability for the Seminar. The letters must be signed and printed on letterhead.
