Progress in Afghanistan’s Education Sector?

According to Shaikh Norul Haq Anwar, a representative of the Taliban, during the Kankor results ceremony held in Kabul, the Taliban Emarat intends to announce approximately 100,000 vacant positions within the Ministry of Education. He also highlighted that the Ministry of Higher Education budget allocation in the year 1402 has seen a substantial increase compared to previous years, underscoring the significance of education.

Mufti Mohammad Tahir Ahmad, the Deputy Assistant of Students Affairs at the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE), has reported an increase in the number of students compared to previous years. He acknowledged that despite facing challenges, the Islamic Emarat of Afghanistan has witnessed notable developments across all sectors. Mufti Ahmad also pointed out that Afghanistan’s higher education curriculum has undergone improvements, now encompassing subjects taught at the international level.

Furthermore, Mufti Ahmad asserted that Afghanistan has successfully aligned its educational curriculum with global standards, a feat not accomplished in many years. He also highlighted the progress in educational initiatives, scientific conferences, and collaborations with esteemed professors and lecturers within the country.

Students’ Comparative Statistics in 1401-1402

As per Saikh Abul Baqi Haqqani, the person responsible for NEXA, the Islamic Emarat of Afghanistan efficiently utilizes its limited resources. He also highlighted a rise in Kankor participants compared to the previous year.

He stated, “In the previous year (1401), 46,850 students took part in the Kankor (university entrance exam), while this year, the number has risen to 84,234, which is almost 20,000 more than in 1401. Approximately 40,839 students secured admission to public universities in the previous year, but for the current year, this figure has increased to 44,336.”

Haqani mentioned that in 1401, roughly 2,423 students enrolled in government institutes, which has now grown to 2,755 students for the current year. The total number of students admitted to private institutes was 18,619 last year, but it is projected to reach 31,420 this year.

He also emphasized, “Last year, there were a total of 61,871 successful Kankor candidates, whereas this year, the total number of successful Kankor candidates stands at 78,511.

Meanwhile, it is important that the NEXA Administration, which operates under the authority of the Taliban, has disclosed the outcomes of the 1402 Kankor examination, yet girls have once again been excluded from the results. It marks the second consecutive year girls have been conspicuously absent from the Kankor results.
