The World’s Youngest Billionaires 2022: 12 Under Age 30

Even though the world’s youngest billionaires haven’t even been around for 30 years, it hasn’t stopped them from accumulating three-comma fortunes. The list of the world’s billionaires included twelve persons under the age of 30, including four Stanford dropouts, two food delivery tycoons, and a cryptocurrency expert. This exclusive club, which together is worth $25.8 billion, accounts for less than 0.5 percent of the 2,668 billionaires.

This year, there are four self-made millionaires under the age of 30. Gary Wang, a 28-year-old cofounder and chief technical officer of the cryptocurrency exchange FTX located in the Bahamas, is the richest of them all. Sam Bankman-Fried, a fellow cofounder and CEO of FTX who turned 30 in March, has the highest net worth of all 20-somethings in 2012. His estimated net worth was $8.7 billion. Ryan Breslow, 27, who dropped out of Stanford to found the lightning-fast payment software business Bolt before stepping down as CEO earlier this year, and who is thought to be worth $2 billion, will be working with Wang. Fellow Stanford grads Pedro Franceschi and Henrique Dubugras complete the newcomers after their corporate credit card business Brex was valued at $12.3 billion in January, catapulting them into the billionaire club. Aged 25 and 26, respectively, the founders from Brazil are now thought to be worth a combined $1.5 billion.

This year’s list has seven self-made billionaires under the age of 30, which is more than the five heirs to existing riches. That’s in part owing to Stanley Tang and Andy Fang, both 29 years old, who together with now-37-year-old Tony Xu cofounded meal delivery startup DoorDash in 2013. When the firm went public in 2020, their interests were each valued at over $2 billion; now, despite a decline in the stock price, they are still thought to be worth $1.2 and $1.1 billion, respectively. Austin Russell’s fortune has also declined since his car sensor company, Luminar Technologies, went public in December 2020, making him the world’s youngest self-made billionaire. Russell’s net worth has decreased by one-third to an estimated $1.6 billion as of age 27.

Kevin David Lehmann, 19, has secured the title of the world’s youngest billionaire for the second year in a row. His estimated net worth is $2.4 billion. The lone adolescent on the list acquired through his father, an early investor in the company, a 50% ownership in the German drugstore chain dm-drogerie markt, but neither is active in the company’s daily operations. Gustav Magnar Witzoe, age 28, inherits one of the world’s largest salmon farming operations. Wang Zelong, age 25, received shares in two Chinese chemical companies. Alexandra and Katharina Andresen, sisters from Norway, ages 25 and 26, respectively, also received ten-figure inheritances from their parents.

For this top group, it’s been a somewhat inconsistent year. Although there are two more under-30 billionaires this year than in 2021, their combined wealth is $3.7 billion less than the previous year. This is primarily because of volatile equities markets and Sam Bankman-exit Fried’s from the under-30 club. Over 97% of the people on this list have ages available, and this report is based on the ages they have been able to confirm.
